Sleep Apnea and Fibromyalgia

Do you have fibromyalgia and struggle with getting asleep or staying asleep (insomnia)?

This is definitely something to look into. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) can be very serious and cause other health concerns later in life. Not everything is fibromyalgia right?

Apparently 50% of folks with fibro also have sleep apnea! Those are really high numbers and worth looking into. My mom was just diagnosed with it and she is like a new woman! She can’t believe how much more energy she has since she got on the sleep apnea machine.

So yep. I am next. Making an appointment with my doctor soon to get this checked out. And yes, it’s a pain in the butt, yet another test to have done and another diagnosis. But I’d sure rather not die of some kind of heart disease just because I hate the thought of yet another diagnosis!

Here’s a quote from Dr Melissa Congdon, who treats fibromyalgia too:

“Why is it important to treat OSA? The Mayo Clinic notes, “Sudden drops in blood oxygen levels that occur during sleep apnea increase blood pressure and strain the cardiovascular system. The more severe the obstructive sleep apnea the greater the risk of coronary artery disease, heart attack, heart failure (perhaps men only) and stroke.” Some fibromyalgia patients with OSA who start getting adequate oxygen during sleep note they have less fatigue, mental fog and pain during the day.”
