My 1 year Fibromyalgia Update on the Guaifenesin Protocol Oct 2012

my most recent pic of me from Oct 2012 (I’m the one with the pompom on my head 🙂

Happy Guaiversary to me!! 😀

I have said so many times that ‘in a few more months I will be so much better I will be able to get a job…” Well, it’s been several months later, and still I can’t work that much.

But let me encourage all you newbies out there thinking of starting the Guaifenesin Protocol. I have been so very sick my whole life. You know how some people can remember a time when it “hit them” and they started to get so very sick? Well, that’s not me. I have been sick my whole life. I couldn’t tell you WHY my fibro has been so bad for so long, but it has.

Here’s my history of Fibro: (skip this if you get tired of the complaints of illness) I remember in Grade 1 how tired and sick I was all the time, and mom used to say that I always got EVERYTHING that went around. And throughout school I struggled so much with what we now know is fibrofog, back then the teachers just thought I was stupid and lazy. Then I hit my growing spurt and had unbelievable charlie horses in my legs every single night. I still always got everything that went around! Fatigue has been a struggle as long as I can remember. My legs and feet have always hurt, and when I got my first job (McDonalds) I thought everyone was literally wanting to die at the end of their shift and that’s why we get paid, otherwise nobody would work… EVER.

So, my fibromyalgia is going to take a little longer to clear than usual. My mom is already doing MUCH better than I am and we started the Guaifenesin Protocol only a month apart. I STILL have to rest in between doing anything. I rest for an hour in the morning, then eat breakfast, then rest, then wash up, then rest, then work on my computer, then eat lunch, then rest, then do some work (paid) for a couple hours, then make supper, then rest for the rest of the evening and night. And then it starts all over again. The afternoon is my best time, so that is when I schedule my work. It’s basically been this for a few years now. The difference is that when I do something, I don’t wish i could just DIE! Now, I do some work or something and have to rest, but it’s not making me sick- I used to get infections ALL the time, bladder infections, UTI’s, Yeast infections, hangnail infections, etc. I had a standing order at the hospital where I could just go in and they would give me antibiotics without an apt. CRAZY. I had ONE infection in the last year! I don’t get the colds and flu bugs going around. and I SLEEP at night! No mood swings (mostly :P) hot flashes, night sweats, etc. My legs and feet only hurt half as much as they used to.  Things HAVE improved! And ONE DAY I will be well- better than I have ever been, and that day, you sure won’t be seeing me on here all the time anymore 😛

I was doing a little better than I am now, only a couple months ago! Then there was some really stressful family emergencies that kinda hit me pretty hard, and set me back a bit. Stress is a really big factor in your Fibromyalgia, so try as best you can to keep stress to a minimum, and pray lots, and do some deep breathing exercises, light stretches, etc.

One more thing I need to tell you about why my situation is likely worse than yours will be: there is about 10% of us on the Guaifenesin Protocol who are REALLY sensitive to the Guaifenesin. We are the ‘low-dose, fast responders‘ This means I clear constantly, at a very low dose (300mg bid). This means I cannot take the Fast Acting along with it or be bed ridden for several days until it gets out of my system. The REST of the 90% of people will cycle up and down, have good days and bad days/weeks/months, and always getting a little better. YOU are the lucky ones in my eyes! If you are a low dose, fast responder like me, keep in touch! You are going to need some encouragement along the way, and I would say to DEFINITELY get mapped if you can at all swing it. I just needed the reminder that this is working, several times over the past year, because I just wasn’t getting better as fast as everyone else.

Do I get discouraged because it’s taking so long? You bet I do! But God always sends someone along to encourage and inspire me again. I am so very THANKFUL to God for the Guaifenesin Protocol and how it WILL give me my life back!
