Perrigo Guaifenesin has been turbulent at best, as far as providing a reliable product goes. Figured it was worth a post!

Perrigo released this statement on their website:

“…an article dated January 4, 2016: “Perrigo announced the temporary suspension of sales of its Guaifenesin 600mg extended-release product pending the resolution of challenges related to an excipient used in the production of the product”. Excipient is some kind of long term stabilizer.”

Perrigo is the Guaifenesin that is the generic brand for many stores like Wal Mart, Walgreens and CVS. It is the one with the tiny amount of compressed sugar in it. It also seems to be the one most people tolerate the best when compared to MDR/ fibro pharmacy Guaifenesin. See this post for more on the different Guaifenesins.

The word I want to remind you of, once you pull yourself off the floor: TEMPORARY. They plan on this being a temporary suspension of sales. Last time this happened however, it was 6 months or more before it came back on the shelves.

So my advice? Stock up! Buy MANY bottles, order online, get all you can. Or switch to MDR/ Fibro Pharmacy Guaifenesin, which is like Old Faithful, always there! But it can be a bit volatile, some people struggle with it. They do make 2 different ones, one is vegetarian, the other one isn’t, you may have to ask them. Jim is the Pharmacist there, and super nice and easy to talk to 🙂 MDR/Fibro Pharmacy does have some Perrigo guai in stock right now, so you can still order from them till they run out 🙂

If you are in Canada, DEFINITELY go with Estevan Pharmacy Guaifenesin! Kyle is the pharmacist and he is so amazing and kind 🙂 Long Acting Pure Guaifenesin through Estevan Pharmacy, Victoria BC. Speak with Kyle. Phone number: 1 250 598 2517 He is very kind but will have a lot of questions, he will treat you like his own patient. He sells both LA and FA in many sizes. He does ask for a prescription though, so keep that in mind before calling! <3 If you fax him the prescription from the doctors office you get the script from, that is the fastest way to get it to him.

There are some people that choose to have their local pharmacy make their guaifenesin for them, but I strongly advise against this, since you can’t be SURE it’s working and may not find out till many years down the road one way or the other. Not worth the risk!

Hang in there, be patient and switch to a different brand if you need to. If you are switching, a good plan is to take a week off in between the switch, usually makes for a much easier transition <3 It’s going to be ok! You will get better!
