FAQ: Is There a Chewing Gum Without Salicylates?

Cleure gum has recently been found to have essential oils in the flavors, I would not risk this. Trident Chewing gum has mint even in the fruit flavors, so please don’t risk this! Sprye gum uses plant oils for flavor, this could block you!

We currently don’t know of a sal safe chewing gum.

Thanks to guaigroup for this quote from an admin (used with permission),

“the problem is in that word Flavouring“. A lot of chewing gums, drinks, and so on designed for today’s market have mint or menthol added as “flavour enhancers”. They put menthol in grape flavor and mint in orange, just for two examples.” Anne-Louise

Chewing gum is not like just a drink of juice. It’s something that stays in your mouth for a long time, you don’t swallow gum like you do food. Any salicylates will be absorbed into the bloodstream and block your guaifenesin from working to reverse your fibro symptoms.

Don’t chance it on this, it’s NOT worth it!!!! There is a xylamelt type candy that is sal safe if you get the mint free one. If you don’t like those, chew on some celery or beef jerky if you must chew on something! 🙂 Personally, I have TMJ and was told ages ago by my dentist to stop chewing gum lol.

**Please note that salicylate sensitivity plays a role in this! My website and support group are VERY sal careful, more so than the guaigroup and the book even! We have found certain things to block the salicylate sensitive people (such as butters, gums, certain toothpastes, Stevia, vinegar) and want to be extremely cautious with what we say is safe or not. Anybody who is being mapped by Dr St Amand or Dr Congdon is a different story, as they have someone who can help them to know when they are blocking. The rest of us who don’t have mappers have to be SUPER diligent so that we don’t block, since we have nobody to catch it if we do!**

I am also not an expert on Fibromyalgia, I’m just here trying to help with things I struggled through alone when I started on the Guaifenesin Protocol due to my lifelong battle with Fibromyalgia.
