This was a comment in regards to a post I made about IBS- Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I asked Jennifer for permission to share with you because it is such good info <3 The guaifenesin Protocol works for fibromyalgia, but not everything is fibro! <3 Hope this will be an encouragement to you too!
“This is very topical for me. I’ve been on the Guaifenesin protocol since January and the fatigue has not cleared.
I’ve had other issues going on. For sure adrenal fatigue and leaky gut.
In an effort to regain my health, I did the GI Map test and found that I have an intestinal parasite (dientamoeba fragilis). The test also shows that my leaky gut has healed, my immune system is working way to hard to suppress this infection, I still have very high antibodies to gluten even though I haven’t eaten it in years, I have low “good” gut bacteria, I am harbouring Norovirus which is also taxing my immune system.
All that to say, Dr. St Amand created the Guaifenesin protocol at a time when he was just treating and hoping. Now, the technology exists to find out what is actually wrong.
If you haven’t improved on all fronts within a year, maybe you should be looking for other causes.
The Guaifenesin protocol has given me so much good. My fibromyalgia is gone! My pain is gone! I am so thankful, but really, there may be more going on and its ok to leave space for that. Just as an aside, if you think you have yeast, Caprylic Acid (or Brain Octane) is a great treatment. It must be taken with another fat at the same time.”

Thank you SO much Jennifer, for sharing a little of your story! I look forward to seeing what your future holds now that fibromyalgia is a thing of the past thanks to Dr St Amand and the Guaifenesin Protocol. <3
And if you would like more information on the Guaifenesin Protocol or Fibromyalgia, check out the links through this post and the tags under the post. 🙂
Jennifer, What is a GI Map test? I live in Canada, not sure if it’s available through our medicare system, but anyway, have never heard of it before, and was wanting some kind of reliable test for parasites.
Thanks,
Deborah
Hi Deborah!
Are you in our Fibro buddies on guaifenesin protocol Facebook group, she is in there and you can chat with her there. But I will ask her to come to this page to chat with you too 🙂 I live in Canada too. I had my blood tested for parasites by a naturepath. You might find one in your area. Where in Canada are you
Hi Christine, Oh my gosh, I’m so embarrassed!! I am having trouble trying to figure out Facebook!! My computer skills are rusty and the brain fog makes it difficult. I don’t have internet at home so must get onto library computer, so frustrating. Facebook doesn’t seem to be user-friendly, think I need to ask the librarian to guide me through the basics, they’re not obvious to me. So please excuse me for my absolute ignorance, think I’ll make more mistakes before long…I tried to register/join your group recently, read your policy page but was stumped when I read the part about “getting tagged”?? and being “kicked out” of the group if I didn’t respond?? I think I got something wrong, and I don’t know how to finish registering. At that point, the pain and brain fog made me give up and go home. When I was on your site in Facebook, I just started clicking on stuff to see what would happen, but didn’t get very far – ugh! It’s busy and overwhelming to me. So if you would kindly help me join, then I’ll be sailing, I think! 🙂
Thanks very much,
Deborah, almost 56 yrs old, desperately trying to get ready for protocol
PS I’ve lived in Charlottetown, PEI for 95% of my life, would love to chat with you, Christine
oh Hi Deborah!! Ok, so for some reason this got tagged as spam. Stupid technology LOL!
No worries, I get it. We actually have alot of people join Facebook just to join our group, so you aren’t alone. If you are on Facebook, you can friend me and I will be able to chat with you and guide you through signing up. My Facebook name is Christine Mitchell Mann and my picture is a close up of me in a pinkish red shirt. I will look for you on there 🙂 You can do this, Facebook is pretty simple once you get a few things figured out. Feel free to ask here if you can’t figure all that out on Facebook.
Tagging is when you start to type someone’s name in a comment or post, and a list of names appear for you to choose one, when you click on one of those, it tags them, so they get notified that someone is trying to say something to them. It’s a way for people to reply to someone publicly. So, when someone asks a question to me, they can tag me, and I will be notified and go answer, and vice versa. There is usually a blue bar at the top of your Facebook page. On the right are some little round pictures called Icons. From right to left: a down arrow triangle that gives you a menu, a question mark that is your help guide, a round earth type icon that will have red numbers on it indicating notifications, 2 little outlines of people indicating friend requests, Home, then your name.
If you have joined any groups like mine, they will show up on the Home page (click on it in the right top in the blue bar). One the Home page, there is a menu on the left side of the page, where there will be a list of your Groups. THat is where you will find any group you have joined. I hope this helps! Just take it one step at a time. I know you are taking in a TON of info right now. You’ll get there!
Hi Deborah, I live it Ottawa. If you have the symptoms (diarrhea on a regular basis, fatigue) don’t be afraid to go into your family dr and ask to be tested for parasites. My doctor repeated the test with the standard Ontario test and found them. The parasite I have is common and I had to insist on being treated for it. If you think this is a possibility for you, don’t be afraid to tell your doctor that a close family member has been diagnosed and you want to be tested. There are 2 tests, one for single celled organisms and one for worms. Make sure you get both. Be firm.
The GI Map test wasn’t covered by the system in Ontario. I paid for it out of pocket, but my private health insurance paid for part of it. I see a naturopath (ND) in Toronto, she has extra functional medicine training. I found her on Dr. Ben Lynch’s website. Not every ND offers this test. There is a wide variety in quality in NDs. The first 3 I saw couldn’t do anything for me although they said they could.
The GI Map test is a stool test using PCR. It is very sensitive because it uses the genetics of the bacteria in your guts so it can detect even small quantities. The Ontario test just has a technician smear the sample on a slide and look at the sample through a microscope. If they don’t see any, too bad, even if they’re present.
If you’re doing so private testing, you should consider the OAT Test (organic acids test) which measures your daily metabolites. It was tremendously useful. It told me that I was making no neurotransmitters, not digesting fats, had candida and reactivated lipid wrapped viruses.
If I could name what has helped my in recovering my health it would be equally the guai protocol, OAT and the GI Map test. I’m half way through the anti-biotics and I feel better than I have in years. Best of luck!
this is great info, thank you so much Jennifer!! Really appreciate you sharing your story and helping others <3 hugs
Hi Jennifer, thanks so much for all that info – no, I don’t have a functional medicine doctor here in PEI, just a naturopath, and I suspect it’s going to be a long time before I have the energy (and money) to delve into this parasite issue any further. I’ll mention it to her though just to see how she responds. Right now my main priority is trying to get onto this guai ASAP, since I have the winter off and don’t go back to work till next July – gives me some time to clear, I hope. My naturopath did prescribe me Allimax for the SIBO (not even sure I have it). Allimax is a potent garlic supplement that I’ve taken before for colds. She said take it thrice/day for two weeks, that’s it! Sounds too simple, of course I need to follow the strict HG diet as well. I have to check the label of the Allimax, to see if it’s straight allicin, and not garlic extract, full of salicylate, Anyway, if it is an extract, I’ll take it before starting the protocol.
So right now I’m still trying to “join” your group, still figuring out Facebook.
thanks again,
Deborah Fournier
Hi Deborah! Here’s the link to the group to join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Fibro.Buddies.Guaifenesin.Protocol/
YOu can request to join from that and then agree to the policy to be let in 🙂
And I have totally heard of garlic working that way for parasites, I did it myself at the advice of a naturepath! Only she suggested raw garlic which made me stink terribly LOL!!! 😀 YOu can always star the protocol after you are finished with your 2 week garlic treatment 🙂
Great idea to give yourself some time before going back to work though! <3
